Abstract:
This study addresses the role of Integrated Crop-Livestock Systems (ICLS) as a sustainable agricultural option that contributes to enhancing food security and tackling environmental and social challenges, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. The study highlights the benefits of these systems, such as improving crop productivity, increasing dietary diversity, and enhancing nutritional indicators among rural households, while emphasizing the importance of adopting supportive policies to scale up their implementation.
The study concludes that the adoption of ICLS still faces major challenges, including limited investment, lack of environmental awareness, and insufficient technical skills among producers. This calls for government intervention through financial support, training, and the creation of new market opportunities. The study also stresses the need for researchers to provide accurate scientific data to support the integration of crop and livestock production systems as a pathway toward achieving food security and environmental sustainability.
